I haven’t had bowel cancer, but I could have if I didn’t have a thorough doctor who did my first colonoscopy at age 40 and found a 10mm adenoma, which if left to age 50, could have become bowel cancer.
This is one reason why the screening age needs to be lowered as this disease is preventable, with a thorough doctor.
I began this journey with severe reflux, which led to an endoscopy that found polyps, and that led to a colonoscopy where they removed the scary polyp.
I had my second screening three years after the first, they found yet more polyps yikes… and removed them and my third screening is scheduled five years after that.
I’m not looking forward to the prep but am confident they will probably find and remove more nasty little polyps… before they can cause any mischief in there.
Also, I’m reflux free these days, thanks to two awesome gastroenterologist/surgeons.
My one piece of advice:
Get the scope.
